Policies, Rules and Notifiers are configured from the Setup/Utilities view on the left-hand menu. Currently Policy, Rule and Notifier settings are global to the customer.
Rules
A Rule is a configured query against a specific table that can be used to create a clickable widget on the Dashboard, define a Policy, or be send Notifications when the query criterion is met. Default rules are generated by 802 Secure when your customer account is created.
To create a new rule, click on the "+ New Rule" button at the top right.
Enter a new Rule name, this will be used as the title of the Dashboard Widget if the "Create Dashboard Widget?" button is selected.
Select the table to query against, currently only one table query is permitted for a Rule. Use the Query Builder to develop the criteria to search.
Policies
A Policy is built as a function around an EVENT Rule only. A Policy may generate an action when the criterion is first met.
Notifiers
Notifiers are actions that can be taken when a specific Policy rule is met. A Policy can be configured without a Notifier.
Notifier actions are taken when the Rule criterion is met and every subsequent hit. Rate limiting is performed for most events but it is possible to overwhelm the notification receivers. Care should be taken to ensure API limits are observed. An Event may be seen no less than once every minute.
Notifiers may be one of the following:
Create Event | ![]() |
Send Email | ![]() |
Send to Slack Webhook URL | ![]() |
Send SMS via Twilio | ![]() |
Send to PagerDuty | ![]() |
Send to OpsGenie | ![]() |
Send to a WebHook URL via HTTP POST | ![]() |
Send to a Syslog Server (must be Internet-accessible) | ![]() |
