AIRSHIELD Serial Console

Modified on Thu, Aug 31, 2023 at 9:52 AM

The serial console on the AIRSHIELD sensor allows for configuring each device's network settings. A moderate level of technical experience is required.

The configuration tool grants access to:

  • Configure the Network Interface for DHCP or Static IP
  • Configure network settings (DNS, gateway, etc)
  • Configure proxy settings
  • Reset the interfaces
  • Ping destination IP addresses
  • Shutdown or reboot the device

Serial Cable

A serial cable with RJ45 connector is required and can be found on Amazon, Newegg, etc. Search for USB Console Cables - usually marketed as supporting Cisco, Ubiquity, etc.

Serial Terminals

With the cable connected, a serial terminal program will be required. Depending upon your operating system and serial cable, you may need to install a system driver to see the COM port.

If using MacOS, the screen utility can be used from the Terminal command line:

$ screen /dev/tty.<replace_with_your_path> 115200

For Windows install the PuTTY application, find your COM port through Device Manager and enter it in the Serial Port:
